As Sophia Singh, a USC Viterbi master’s student studying aerospace engineering, prepares for graduation, she recalls the last major milestone in her academic career: her high school graduation. Earlier this month, she returned to her former high school, Villa Joseph Maria High School in Pennsylvania, to honor the 2019 senior class. Leading the procession of graduates through the halls of the basilica where the ceremony was held, Singh recalled her own graduation seven years prior, when she reflected on her favorite classes and the future that awaited her across the country at USC.

Inside the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, Singh shared a few words of inspiration with the graduates, including:
– Expect anything
– Make memories.
– Experience everything life has to offer.
– Keep your family and friends close.

She also detailed a unique experience she only dreamed of at her own high school graduation—interning for NASA.

Singh expects to graduate in December 2019. In addition to her coursework, she is currently researching pulsar timing arrays as a method of gravitational wave detection at Caltech.
