On May 24, Part-time Lecturer in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Vinay Goyal received three awards from NASA honoring his contributions as part of two NASA Engineering & Safety Center teams. Goyal’s efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety of human spaceflight.

The awards included recognition for completing major modernization and revision to NASA Special Publication 8007 on safety criteria and identifying the probable cause of the Arecibo Observatory socket failure and providing industry recommendations to mitigate future failures — both awarded by the Engineering & Safety Center. Goyal also received an Exception Service Medal recognizing outstanding structural engineering support to safety of flight assessments, methodology development, and engineering analyses of critical interest to NASA and its missions.
