On August 8, 2024, the University of Patras (Greece), bestowed an Honorary Doctorate Degree upon AME Professor Fokion Egolfopoulos. The university (founded in 1964) awarded him a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics. This Honorary Doctorate Degree (also known as Honoris Causa) is regarded as a significant mark of esteem.
“Honorary Doctorate Degree is the highest distinction of the University for external members,” explained Professor Egolfopoulos. He described the process of how he was awarded the degree: “The faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics made the recommendation to the University. It was then approved by the University Senate and confirmed by the University Rector.”
This achievement recognizes 3 details. First, Professor Egolfopoulos’ distinguished, continuing, and encouraging contributions to the combustion/energy conversion field. Second, his numerous contributions to the educational and research endeavors of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics. Third, his extensive service to Greek higher education, particularly as a member or chair of state-appointed international committees for the evaluation and accreditation of numerous Greek universities over the last 15 years.
Congratulations Professor Egolfopoulos and thank you for your contribution to this announcement!
