USC’s Recumbent Vehicle Design Team is celebrating a decade of innovation. It started off as AME alum Brook Hammerschmidt’s ambitious idea from 2014 and has now evolved into a powerhouse of engineering excellence.

RVDT has consistently pushed the boundaries of human-powered vehicle design, culminating in a standout performance at the 2024 ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge with a 2nd place overall finish and a Best Innovation award for their inventive pedal adjustment system. They attribute their success to resilience in overcoming challenges, ownership in hands-on design, building vehicles from scratch, and a focus on human-powered performance.
