The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has honored Yan Jin, professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering, with the Design Theory and Methodology (DTM) Award, recognizing his exemplary contributions to engineering design research, teaching and leadership.
The DTM Award celebrates individuals whose sustained impact advances foundational design theories, innovative methods, systematic methodologies, product modeling tools, design education and leadership in design management
Professor Jin, who leads the USC IMPACT Lab (Improving Manufacturing Productivity through Advanced Collaboration Technologies), is internationally recognized for his work on design cognition, knowledge-based systems, multi-agent collaboration and AI-assisted engineering design.
Reflecting on the award, Professor Jin shared: “I am deeply honored to receive the prestigious ASME Design Theory and Methodology Award. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and creativity of my PhD students, whose significant contributions have shaped our body of research. The award is both an encouragement and an inspiration to continue advancing our work, particularly in the areas of AI-assisted engineering design and self-organizing systems.”
