Dynamical Systems and Controls
The dynamics and control group in AME at USC is involved in projects aimed at understanding and controlling the dynamics associated with mechanical, fluid, and biological systems at scales ranging from micro (biological systems) to macro (atmospheric weather patterns).
Specific projects include the modelling and control of structurally flexible systems and biomechanical systems, analytical and structural dynamics and control, solid-fluid interactions and underwater locomotion, gyroscopic systems, space structures, tracking control of nonlinear systems, system identification and distributed parameter systems, analysis and control of parametrically excited systems, N-body problems in orbital mechanics, low-dimensional models of fluid mechanics, interacting particle systems, Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, computational dynamics including symplectic and variational integration algorithms, Lyapunov exponent and attractor dimension calculations, fluid mixing, transport and control, geometric phases in locomotion and control settings, control of robotic manipulators, intelligent control of systems using neural networks and fuzzy logic.
